MindBody Aikido, Glenfield, Auckland, New Zealand.  Gerald started learning Aikido in 1982, while studying for a law degree in London. His principal instructor was Ken Williams, a charismatic man and brilliant teacher, who had trained in budo with 8th dan Kenshiro Abbe, a direct student of aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba. Abbe was also a formidable judo exponent, and went to London in 1955 to teach judo, aikido and other martial arts. Williams also studied under 10th dan Koichi Tohei, with whom he learned to articulate the energetic (Ki) aspects of aikido.

Integrating the concepts of mind-body coordination (Shin-Shin Toitsudo) of Tohei and Williams, his learning and teaching of Yoga philosophy and practice, and postgraduate studies in MindBody healthcare at Auckland University of Technology (AUT), Gerald teaches aikido with an emphasis on flow, relaxation, and energy (Ki), while keeping in mind the original budo intention of managing real-world conflict.

Gerald’s classes are fun and welcoming for young people, women, and those who wish to build their self-confidence. Experienced practitioners also welcomed.
